Tony Hawk Ride: Anyone suprised?

It’s been panned up and down the review circuit, insulted by metacritic, and laughed at by gamers. It’s previously desirable face has been given a black eye worthy of police investigation.

It’s kind of like watching an old man get mugged in the street. At one point in his life he could probably have fought his attackers (Skate/EA/BlackBox) off and emerged victorious, but these new assailants are younger, stronger, and more agile. The old man tries in vain to kick out using the same technique he relied on in his younger days, but his eyesight is failing making his kicks less accurate than they once were, and the muggers have seen how kicks like this work and move easily out of the way.

Over the years the Tony hawk series has travelled a long, rocky road. From the innovation and fun of the first two games, to the inane childish garbage of the THUG/Wasteland entries that featured Bam Margera’s trademark idiocy splashed around like urine on a drunks shoe.

The most recent addition to the series has been met with considerable criticism and rightly so. It seems like one last desperate grab for cash before the series is finally laid to rest if you ask me.

£100 for a buggy, unresponsive plastic skateboard? What the hell were you guys thinking?
