Monster Hunter: History Lesson

September 17th, 2010 No comments

Anyone who has read this blog before will be more than aware of my love for all things Monster Hunter and so it may be surprising that I’ve left it so long before writing a review. My save file tells me I have logged around 200 hours now so I guess I’m in a position to finally talk about it, but before I do I should probably go into some detail of my past with the franchise. As such I’ll be splitting this article in two, the first talking about the franchise as a whole, the next will be my actual review of the game. By all means, skip this section if you are already familiar with the history of Monster Hunter, if you are not familiar and interested in some back story on one of gamings most underrated gems, read on… but I warn you now, this may get quite lengthy.

Monster Hunter Frontier coming to Xbox?

January 26th, 2010 No comments

Wow!

Kinda blown away by this! I had already come to terms with the fact the series was moving to the Wii, and after playing the Wii version I have been suitably impressed enough to not worry too much about it and just appreciate that we are getting the third game over here after all.

For years though, Monster Hunter Frontier has been a thorn in my side. Due to lack of access I largely put up with other subscription titles, all the while commenting how great this or that MMO would be with Rath’s flying around, how amazing MH would be in an MMO setting… all the while watching enviously as new monster after new monster was added to MH: Frontier, the Monster Hunter MMO of choice if you live in Japan or Korea.

Finally, FINALLY I can let go of the jealousy (that’s assuming this thing gets a western release – PLEEEASE let this get a western release!) and look forward to hunting Rathalos online over Xbox live!

According to the article the subscription fee for playing will be around $15 for 30 days access… and that includes the Gold Live subscription! Not a bad deal really and should help bring in gamers that would normally stay away from subscription games.

Expect to hear a lot about this as I do… either here or over at our Monster Hunter fan site www.wyvernhunt.info

Kut-Ku Statue Arrived!

The Kut-Ku statue I ordered from Play Asia arrived today!

Sorry for the picture quality but I only had my PSP camera to use as I’m at work right now. You can just make out the statue.. if you ignore my blue shirt in the reflection of the plastic!

As you can see, my Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Notepad arrived with the statue too. No more will I have to scribble my MH notes in an unworthy pad..

Again, sorry for the picture quality.. I think I set the picture size faaar too big for lightbox but it will have to do for now.

My only regret is that at some point I’m going to have to give the statue away for a Wyvernhunt.info competition.

My Monster Hunter Addiction…

September 4th, 2009 No comments

…got the better of me finally. I ordered myself a pretty sweet Kut-Ku statue from Play-Asia, and also grabbed a Monster Hunter notebook while I was at it.

I actually plan on giving away the statue in a competition over at Wyvernhunt.info. Not sure what kind of competition yet but probably some kind of naked speed run on a Ku or something like that.

Much as I’d like to keep it myself, no staff entries allowed.. will just have to pick another up asap ;)
