Addicted to Warcraft?
No willpower?
No problem.. A scam rehab center just opened called, ReSTART (I see what you did there… clever), which claims to cure your Warcraft addiction for the low price of $14,000
$14,000!
I’d like to take this moment to advertise my own rehab program..
It only costs £500 and can be completed in three short steps
- Open the side of your PC and stamp your foot repeatedly into the inside
- Cover your install disks with aftershave and set on fire
- Get some fucking willpower!!
All done!
Sorry, I just dont buy this crap. I played heavily for something like two years. It was not uncommon for guildies to logg off on a night and logg back on the next morning and find me still online, grinding for whatever carrot was in front of my face at the time.
I would say I was pretty addicted… yet it did NOT cost me $14,000 to quit! It cost me £40 for a new console game and some willpower and patience!
After 2 years I got round to re-installing Guild Wars once again. Blame the Guild Wars 2 trailer for that
I’d forgotten how good GW actually is to be honest. When I first played it I barely made it out of Pre-Searing Ascalon with a Warrior/Ranger before going back to Warcraft. Since I’ve given up that dark addiction for some time now, and Darkfall refuses to let me try before I buy, I decided to go for some good old free-to-play fun and try Guild Wars again.
I rolled another Warrior (familiar with them, know where all the Pre-Searing Warrior skills are etc… plus, I like to hit things in the face with a Hammer!), claimed my GOTY bonus items and got going. Once I got used to not being able to jump, or path through bushes.. or off hills (grr) I had a great time blasting through the old content again.
Over a couple of nights I checked off all the Quests I could do in Pre-Searing, paid a Gate Monkey some cash to let me go farm the Northlands for a bit, gave Gwen all the crap she wanted (and received a tapestry thread from her? wtf do I do with that?)… after a period of dye farming I figured why wait and did the quests that end with the Searing.
I didn’t remember the PvP part from the last time I did it, so until my memory kicks in, that was my introduction to GW PvP. Reminded me a lot of Warhammer Online now I think about it. Definitely something I’ll be trying more of. After an 8/0 victory against a team with what seemed to be 2 human players on vs me and my henchies, I am now entering the ruins of Ascalon for the first time in 2 years.
..and that’s where I left it. 2 Platinum in my bags, a bank full of various dyes and a shit ton of crafting materials. Now I just need to figure out what the hell is going on!
Still a little early for a conclusive opinion but I enjoyed what I have seen so far. Fingers crossed a couple of guildies I know come back to the game!
After reading a little about Darkfall I thought I’d check it out and see for myself what this PvP-sandbox game was all about.
Unfortunately, no trial available from the site. No problem, I thought.. it seems to be a small(ish) niche game right now, surely a digital download wont cost much more than £20/£25 with a free month included?
Turns out if I wanted to buy the EU version of the game to play on the EU servers its going to cost me the equivalent of £40+, and about £14 per month subscription fee after the first month is up. A quick look at the NA site tells me the NA version works out to be around £30 after currency conversion, and about £8 per month subscription!
With no physical copy of the game on sale these are the only two options available to me.. and without a trial there is just no way I’m spending that much money without trying it out first.
Why the reluctance to offer even a 7 day trial? Why the high price and variance between regions?
Looking at Amazon.co.uk I could buy (if I didn’t already own), World of Warcraft, Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King all in for a total of £34.98 shipped to my door. With whatever the subs fee is these days, £8 is it?
I’m not convinced enough that Darkfall has as much content as the Warcraft series. It may play better for PvP fans – In fact, I’m sure it does – but in terms of value for money, Darkfall has some work to do before I part with my money.
